Hello, Algrif, and welcome to the Simple English Wiktionary!

We hope you are happy editing here. Some helpful pages to begin with are Wiktionary:Community Portal, Wiktionary:Useful, Help:Contents, Wiktionary:Rules, and Wiktionary:How to edit.

If you want to talk with other members or ask a question, you can visit Wiktionary:Simple talk. Administrators can also help you with more difficult problems. You can also ask me for help. The best way to do that is to leave a message on my talk page. Just remember to sign your messages on talk pages by typing "~~~~" (four tildes) at the end of your words.

Good luck and happy editing!

Thank you so much, Algrif, for your offer! We don't have any system for identifying particularly good articles, so I'll just refer you to a few that I think are fine and show various aspects of what we do: area, legal, advance, guard, however.

One major thing to keep in mind is that we prefer full sentence explanations to phrasal definitions. Examples are best when they show the main collocations of a word.

Two areas that need attention are the very common words that are just stubs and the BNC2 list, which I'm currently working through (I'm in the Cs).--Brett 18:35, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Colourless[change]

The templates weren't really my idea, but I've done my best with it. Colour is still spelled the same in both colourless and colorless, but the template didn't anticipate that issue.--Brett 17:16, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Have a look at need and see if that helps.--Brett 15:33, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Entry formatting[change]

Please read Help:Creating a new entry and Wiktionary:Entry layout explained before making any new entries. It outlines how we format entries here. We format entries very differently than the English Wiktionary does. Thanks, Razorflame 19:33, 12 August 2010 (UTC) WTF are you on about Flame??? I read them a long time back, and I do the best i can. I'm not doing anything wrong. Leave me alone please. -- Algrif (talk) 10:36, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, you are not formatting your entries correctly. You are supposed to include the word in the entry bolded in the beginning of the definition, you are not supposed to put a space in between in inflection line and the definition line, and more. I could go on and on about what you haven't done right. Don't give me that kind of attitude when all that I am trying to do is help you out so that you know how to format an entry here appropriately. Even if you've read them a long time ago, they change, and you should re-read them because your entries are not reflecting what they say now. Razorflame 06:42, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
ACTUALLY, some of those formattings were put there by Barras and Tygrrr. Limit yourself to making IMPROVEMENTS rather than erasing other peoples work and edit warring. THAT is the "spirit" of wiktionary both simple and complex. And at the risk of repeating myself, LEAVE ME ALONE, FLAME. I accept edits from almost anyone who isn't YOU -- Algrif (talk) 10:20, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent cahnges to amber were complex and against the spirit of this Wiktionary. Amber resin can be countable when you are talking about more than one kind of resin. Furthermore, adding words such as visible and other such changes that you've made only make the entry harder to understand for the people who are learning English. Razorflame 06:45, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not to take sides or anything, but I feel this revert, at the least, was justified. IMHO, use of words like "visible" and "which is", that are already implied, just make the entry longer/complex than it needs to be - we should phrase things in the simplest possible manner. As far as the countables are concerned, I think they can be used in plural in certain contexts (e.g. "The ambers and the reds blend beautifully in this Rembrandt"). There probably should be an adjective entry for the word too. My two pence. Tempodivalse [talk] 16:34, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Apology[change]

Hi there Algrif. Although this might be a little late, I would like to apologize for my actions over the past few days. I agree that they got a little out of hand. I also agree that I am a bit protective of this site. The reason for this is because this is the site that I want to see flourish and grow, and I try to help people out to help it flourish and grow. My attitude after your initial response to my attempt to help you get up to date on the formatting of entries was uncalled for, and I apologize. I got a little heated in the moment, and I might have said some things that should not have been said. For that, I am sorry. I know that this probably won't change your mind about coming back here, but I do hope that this will at least help, in some small way, any future relationship we might have on this site. My actions were only done in the best interest of this site. If they were the wrong choices, I apologize for them. Sorry to see you go, Razorflame 21:15, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
