1. (transitive & intransitive) If you multiply ${\displaystyle x}$ by ${\displaystyle y}$, you add ${\displaystyle x}$ to itself ${\displaystyle y}$ times.
Nine multiplied by eleven is ninety nine (${\displaystyle 9\times 11=99}$).
2. (transitive & intransitive) If something multiplies, more and more of it exist.
Problems have multiplied since the beginning of the week.
3. (intransitive) If living things multiply, the have babies, or they make more of themselves.
