Interwiki links[change]

Dear Hydriz,

Thank you for welcoming me to Simple Wiktionary. I'm happy to be here and am proud to be helping. :)

I noticed corrections you made to some of the entries I added. Thank you for that. I am learning from your changes.

I also see that your bot has helped me, too. For example, on the entry for irritable, HydrizBot has added interwikilinks. And on the entry for wail, HydrizBot has added interwikilinks and a pronunciation template. It seems almost magical, and I'm very grateful. But this only happened for two entries. All of the other entries that I've added still await a visit from your bot. So, I'm wondering, how does this happen? Does new entry creation automatically trigger bot action? Or must I leave some sort of signal in the code to cause it to come? I tried to learn more about this process, but Wiktionary:Entry layout explained#Interwiki_links does not mention your bot.

I tried an experiment at gratification. I added [[en:gratification]]. This is what is shown at Wiktionary:How to change a page#Standard format for entries -- the example etnry cat includes [[en:cat]]. The interwikilink does appear under "In other languages" in the left nav bar on Simple Wiktionary. But I still don't see it on English Wiktionary. Do you know how that step happens?

I'm willing to add English interwikilinks if that is the proper thing to do, and if doing so does not interfere with your bot. However, adding all of the other language links, while potentially very helpful for readers, is time consuming, and, to be honest, not as personally rewarding as contributing new entries.

Thank you so much for your insight and guidance in this matter. I really appreciate you tutoring me. :) All the best, Msannakoval (talk) 10:38, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The interwiki links are automatically added by bots, but it may take some time before they are added. Usually, you do not have to do anything about the interwiki links as it is not exactly important. It will take some time for the interwiki links to appear on other Wiktionaries (such as the English Wiktionary) though. The pronunciation section is done automatically by the bot as well, but it operates at rather irregular intervals. There are also other bots that are also adding the interwiki links as well. --Hydriz (talk) 10:54, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Hydriz. I understand. And that's good to know. It's really helpful that your bot takes care of this important wiki work for us. I'm very grateful to you for creating and maintaining this bot and for providing this functionality automatically. All the best, Msannakoval (talk) 11:11, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Synonyms and antonyms[change]

Dear Hydriz,

I noticed that you've improved the code on one of the entries I created: contentment. You replaced simpler section formatting with the {{synonyms}} and {{antonyms}} templates. Thank you for teaching me this strategy. I used it when I created the entry for gun-shy.

I'm just confused because at least two other pages linked in welcome template you left on on my talk page -- Wiktionary:How_to_change_a_page and Help:Creating_a_new_entry#Related_words.2C_synonyms.2C_antonyms_and_see_also -- indicate that synonyms and antonyms should be listed in separate stand-alone sections separate from the part of speech section. The noun entries instructions here also explicitly list this as the 5th step. Based on these guidelines, it seems to me that I had created the entry for contentment correctly. If there is some other rule that explains what I've missed, please let me know. I want to make sure that I am following project policies properly.

All the best, Msannakoval (talk) 12:38, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The synonyms and antonyms have been a relatively new addition to the style of entries. Please see this help page for more information about this. The format that you are using on contentment is correct, and that is what you should be doing. We have yet to update our project pages to reflect this change in entry formatting though. Also, please do not be too overly worried about the style of the entries. Other editors will always be around to help fix them, but it is great to hear that you are learning and improving in subsequent entries. Thanks! --Hydriz (talk) 13:36, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Hydriz. Hadn't found that page yet. It helps a lot. :) Msannakoval (talk) 16:56, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
