Usage notes[change]

The words micromania and echoism are synonyms, and are antonyms of megalomania and narcissism. Both micromania and megalomania are personality disorders on opposite extremes of the spectrum of self-regard and grandioseness. The healthy median of self-regard and grandioseness situated between the extremes of micromania i.e. echoism and megalomania i.e. narcissism is the neurotypical self-regard and grandioseness. Micromania and echoism are typically caused by a narcissistic or megalomanic environment that includes vicarious emotional regulation, such as a narcissistic household.
