  1. (countable) A black hole is a round invisible astronomical body with no solid surface and is compact enough to attract light and swallow it. That's why it remains usually invisible.
    Certain stars form a couple with a black hole, turning around each other : the matter of the star is progressively swallowed by the black hole.
