Archive[change]

Gerard, I moved the archived talk to "Wiktionary:Simple talk/Archive" instead of "arcive" (no offense), and I'm changing the link now, but I think we should actually delete the "arcive" page, rather than have a redirect page lying around which no one will ever use. Happy editing! --Cromwellt|talk 21:01, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that. Gerard Foley 21:46, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Don't sweat it, Gerard. Everyone makes mistakes, and with all the revising I do of my own comments not to mention actual page edits, I really shouldn't be talking. Happy editing! --Cromwellt|talk 16:05, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tempodivalse[change]

Just a note to you that wikinews is nearly empty. Fortunately William S. Saturn and BRS have been passing my articles but hardly any other reviews are active. You are much missed! Best wishes, Mattisse (talk) 10:47, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'm not surprised the project is slowing down. (Any particular reason for posting here instead of my talk page?) It's nice to see you were able to stick around despite the initial conflicts. I myself don't intend on returning though. Too many people who don't want to see me ... That's what I like about small projects, much less argument. Sorry, I was confused. Best wishes, Mattisse (talk) 21:02, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Archives[change]

I notice that Simple Talk is currently and repeatedly being flooded with tech and governance news that doesn't really belong here and that it means that a) Simple Talk can't do it's real job of providing a place for the average user to ask questions, b) it's not an inviting place for our target users, and c) any actual user comments and questions tend to get lost in the shuffle and then, periodically, swept up and dumped in the archives with the rest (which archives, while now easily searchable, are no longer easily accessible, I note). I recommend we change things a bit. I'm not sure of the best way to go about it, but I'd like to take the flood and direct it somewhere else (preferably moving the archived stuff of that nature as well), leaving us with our nice, boring, slow-moving Simple Talk page again. To put it in terms of the way it is on ENWT, because we only have one real place for centralized discussion, they're treating Simple Talk like a Beer Parlour and Grease Pit, and that means its main purpose as an Information Desk is obstructed. If this is the only place the Meta-Wiki people and such know where to put things, maybe we should create a new page or even separate the Helpdesk (currently for some reason connected to Simple Talk, even though it's supposed to be a Help page), turn that into the new Simple Talk (even if we don't name it that), then rename this something more fitting that they'll recognize, and let them have it! --Cromwellt|talk|contribs 03:50, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see how this is not inviting. —Justin (koavf)TCM09:52, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Our target users are people who don't speak English well. The news flood here at Simple talk is something they won't understand. It will probably intimidate them and doesn't make Simple talk feel like a place meant for them where they can freely ask questions. And anyone bold enough to ask a question probably won't get a response, because this page is so full of news that their question gets missed. That's what I mean by "not inviting". Cromwellt|talk|contribs 13:37, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And just to clarify, I'm not referring to this talk page being uninviting. I'm referring to the Wiktionary:Simple talk page being that way. I use "here" or "this page" because this is the talk page associated with that page. Like saying "this article" on a discussion page for a WP article. I hope that clears it up. --Cromwellt|talk|contribs 13:43, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Notifications can go somewhere else or archives can be more speedy so that the page isn't visually confusing. Another option is to leave this as an all-purpose noticeboard and have a Tea Room-style page that is more welcoming. —Justin (koavf)TCM18:52, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
