A vandal to block

193.181.20.252 has been heavily vandalizing. J991 16:07, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Due to the extent of cross-wiki vandalism from this IP, I have reported it at Meta. Pkbwcgs (talk) 16:17, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ah thanks, see they're now globally blocked. J991 16:47, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the report - nothing to action right now since they are globally blocked as said above. Next time if no admins are locally on please feel free to grab ahold of a global sysop or steward on IRC if necessary. Hiàn (talk) 22:36, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Repeat vandal

Special:Contributions/75.128.77.238 J991 15:05, 9 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not so keen on blocking this IP given that they're only on their second edit overall, however if there's another edit I'd be happy to reconsider. Hiàn (talk) 19:33, 9 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

AWB request

Hi, I want to use AWB to finding vandals and to correct some mistakes for example "something ." to "something." Have a nice day. Krzysiek 123456789 (talk) 20:02, 11 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. Sorry but I don't exactly think you have the experience to run AWB on this wiki - you have fairly minimal experience cross-wiki and this is your only edit to simplewikt. AWB is a tool that has the ability to disrupt the wiki on a large scale and because of that requesters need some level of trust - you don't have it at the moment. Hiàn (talk) 21:42, 11 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Krzysiek 123456789: yes, I'm aware you have prior experience with the tool. The answer would have been the same either way. As I said, AWB is a tool with the potential to disrupt the wiki on a large scale. You don't have the experience here necessary to know the differences between this wiki and your home wiki (much less the policies and guidelines here). If you are legitimately interested in contributing here with AWB (and not having an extra right on a wiki you don't edit), then please make more contributions here. Attempting to add spam links to external sites

Seems that there are a lot of user(s) who create their account(s) for the purpose stated above. Should they be reported directly to meta or a local block will suffice? See the abuse log for filters 5 & 8. 大诺史 (talk) 02:46, 9 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Special:Contributions/109.66.67.51

I have blocked Special:Contributions/109.66.67.51 as a global sysop action for continued vandalism. They also created three pages that I have tagged for speedy deletion. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 05:42, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted, thanks. --Minorax (talk) 05:43, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

images

I have seen that images adding images is encouraged to help users understand. I added an image to "absolute" and was told it was not needed. I'm confused. Are images wanted?

@Computermice: Images are definitely wanted, but the image added doesn't explain the word "absolute" clearly enough. Generally, it's easier to add images for nouns and verbs. --Minorax (talk) 13:41, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The image is in support of the sentence "The sergeant has absolute power. His soldiers must obey him." which was also added and kept. The image clearly shows the meaning of absolute in that sentence. I agree nouns and verbs are easiest to illustrate. Illustrating more abstract meanings is important as the meaning of those words (like "absolute") are only supported by more words. If the reader who prefers simple English is in need of clear meaning it comes more from the image than from . Meaning is in the object, event or situation. Words are simply a sound/print representation of that meaning. I hope you will reconsider accepting the image I offered. More like it are needed to clarify/represent meaning clearly for those in need of simple English, including children. This wiktionary could become the go-to dictionary for children if it were image-supported. The main reason children and beginning language learners do not use a dictionary is because they don't read/understand the target language well enough to get the meaning of a word from more words.

I agree that the image was not a clear illustration of absolute. Images can be great, but they are often not helpful.
On another note, if you would like to continue this discussion, please, sign your posts using --~~~~ and stick to one account. It appears that you are using multiple accounts, which is called sockpuppetry and can get you blocked or banned.--Brett (talk) 20:24, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
