Affixes

[change]

Hi, RTG

Thanks for the message. I'm basing my argument on a number of things: Some languages are agglutinative. These languages can be made up almost entirely of affixes, such that each sentence is just a single word in extreme case. Examples include Turkish, Japanese, Tamil, Hungarian, and Inuktitut. English is not one of these languages. Also, most of the English words with multiple affixes are not English in origin, but have been imported from Greek and Latin. That's not to say that they aren't English now, but it does suggest that languages like Greek and Latin probably have a lot more affixes than English does. Finally, native English words tend to be monosyllabic and allow few if any affixes.--Brett 18:43, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
