Buridan's ass

  1. Buridan's ass is a philosophical question that can be summarized like this: A hungry ass (donkey) is placed in between two bales of hay. Both bales of hay are equally far from the donkey, and both bales are completely identical and equally good. The donkey needs to eat at least one of the bales of hay, otherwise it will starve and die. Assuming that free will does not exist and that the donkey decides purely based on logic, how does the donkey decide which hay bale to eat? If it decides to eat both of them, how does it choose which one to eat first?
