Basque[change]

What is your source re: classification as Indo-European? It is my understanding that its classification is still controversial, and it is often considered a language isolate. PiRSquared17 (talk) 04:48, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi? I don't think that classification should be mentioned since it's not widely accepted. Vasconic maybe. PiRSquared17 (talk) 19:56, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
Sure. Make the changes as you wish. Eurodyne (talk) 21:29, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

Turtle[change]

Thanks for all your edits! I think turtle's a problem, though, for two reasons:

  1. It's far from simple
  2. It's plagiarized

Could you deal with this?--Brett (talk) 08:11, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

Yes check.svgY Done --Eurodyne (talk) 22:25, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

Position of links to other Wikimedia projects[change]

If you're going to add a lot of {{wikipedia}} & {{commonscat}} tags, could you do so in such a way that doesn't distort the layout of the main material. I'm not sure exactly how that should be done, but you could think about various ways.--Brett (talk) 08:13, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

I guess... --Eurodyne (talk) 22:04, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
Brett, see Turtle. I have tried something there. What do you think? --Eurodyne (talk) 05:22, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
This works well here, I think.--Brett (talk) 05:41, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Definitions[change]

When you make entries for words such as hug, please make sure to include as many definitions as possible in Simple English using the English Wiktionary as a guide. There are plenty more definitions for hug in both the verb and noun senses that definitely should be added here. Cheers, Razorflame 15:26, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

Sure?[change]

I just wanted to make sure. Also why did you mark yogurt as countable? Maybe countable and uncountable, but in most cases I'd say it's uncountable. (See fix by Brett) PiRSquared17 (talk) 22:29, 26 October 2014 (UTC)

Well, I saw yogurts on enwikt and know that yogurts isn't a mispelled word to my computer. I was assuming it was countable. Eurodyne (talk) 03:31, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
And rusts and moistures? Look, almost any noun can be forced into a countable or uncountable sense. I can take a word like pencil and ask how much pencil you used writing. But if we take this to mean that pencil is uncountable, then we have no useful information for people who don't speak English as a native language and are wondering how to use a noun. Both rust and moisture are clearly uncountable. You ask how much moisture is in the air, not how many moistures are in the air and you ask how much rust is on you car not how many rusts are on your car. It's worth doing research before writing up a new entry. When I make an entry (or when I used to, I hardly do any more), it often takes/took me 20 minutes or more. How about at least using the Longman Dictionary to check whether a noun is countable or not? The plural form of rust exists (they're usually used to talk about varieties of rust (the plant disease), shades of the colour rust, etc.), but it's vanishingly rare. The same with moistures. I suppose we can keep the plurals if we can find genuine examples of them, but let's take care to mark the countability of nouns in a helpful way.--Brett (talk) 07:41, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
Yeah sure. I just saw on enwikt that rusts and moistures was the plural form. I just carried it over here. Eurodyne (talk) 16:08, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

Strange bug with User:Conrad.Irwin/creation.js[change]

I found a strange bug with this user script, and I'm not sure what's causing it. When I click a greenlink (caused by this script), the URL appears in full with the preload text, but still I get a blank editor. Do you know how to get past this? --George.Edward.CTalkContributions 08:25, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

Yes I do. Do you have global twinkle installed on meta? Eurodyne (talk) 20:00, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
No, because I feared it might overlap with the Twinkle gadget I have enabled on numerous wikis. Does this happen? If not I'll import the script on Meta. George.Edward.CTalkContributions 08:47, 23 November 2014 (UTC)

My talk page[change]

I believe that your deletion of my talk page was a mistake. A user page is not a requirement for someone to have a user talk page; the talk page is important as it allows for users to communicate. J991 (talk) 16:39, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

I have restored the page. --Hydriz (talk) 22:12, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

Welcoming new users[change]

Hello. Please kindly do not unnecessarily welcome new users that have

  • a) no edits at all on this projects and/or
  • b) are simple spambots that should rather be locked instead of welcomed

as it recently happened for User:BlairMcdaniel, which you welcomed long after the account was globally locked. Thanks, -Barras talk 16:32, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

Names of Wikimedia languages[change]

Dear Eurodyne,

we are initiating a long needed action - we would like to translate names of all Wikimedia languages to all Wikimedia languages in the next two months. We have noticed that you are very active on Wiktionary and that is the reason why we are taking liberty to contact you.

We hope that you would be interesting to help us in our endeavor - To make this action easier we have already prepared the list of all Wikimedia languages, and for each language we have already prepared the page with existing and missing translations. So when you go to the page for your language you would have two tasks - to check whether existing translations are OK and to fill in the missing one. The more detailed instruction are on the language page.

What are the benefits of this work?

  • We believe it is about time to have all Wikimedia languages translated to all Wikimedia languages :)
  • Translated languages will be parsed into Wiktionary and the resulting number of Wiktionary entries will be significant for each language. That could significantly increase the number of entries for less developed Wiktionaries, and improve the quality of entries in general.
  • Wikidata - this would be great contribution to Wikidata.
  • All other projects could benefit from this list (Wiki Travel :)), as we believe that certain amount of terms has to be properly translated to all languages.

We are gathered around the project Wiktionary Meets Matica Srpska and we hope that you would be interesting in working with us! If you have any questions you can ask them on the Names of Wikimedia languages discussion page or via personal emails.

Important notice: The data are licensed under CC0, as they should be incorporated into Wikidata at the end of the process.

If you don’t want to receive future announcement about the project, please leave a note on discussion page.

Thank you and looking forward to hear from you!

Anglo-Egyptian Sudan[change]

Do you think the term Anglo-Egyptian Sudan should be deleted? It seems like its just a sum of parts term to me, and I'm the author who created it, which I regret now. --PaulBustion88 (talk) 00:52, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
