@Brett: There is a sentence which is worthy of our note: They are quite different from how they seemed at first sight. In this sentence, how is an adjective, but how they seemed at first sight should probably be analysed as a fused relative NP. Any thoughts? Victor Bob [talk] 13:51, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Off the top of my head, that seems right, but I do sometimes confuse myself about fused relatives. Anyhow, why is it relevant here?

Because in Oxford Dictionary, how is an adverb whereas it's labelled here as an adjective, thereby making me suddenly recall a sentence which also contains the adjectival how. But it is hard for me to give an explanatory account of the internal structure of that fused NP whose head is an adjective. Victor Bob [talk] 15:05, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
