Could someone please help me figure out the conjugation for bide? I have started the formatting, but I don't know which past tense goes with which past participle. It isn't clear on English Wiktionary. · Tygrrr... 18:24, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You mean the conjugation of bid, not bide, right? I can't find anything showing that, for example, bade goes only with bidden and not with bid. The CGEL lists bid, bade, bidden, but I think we can just mix them together.--Brett 23:41, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, bidden is the past participle of both bid and bide. I could just combine though like you did with bid. · Tygrrr... 16:22, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I can't find any sources showing bidden as a form of bide except a few quotations in the OED from much earlier times.--Brett 18:55, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It would probably have been better if I had said "it can be the past participle of bide", rather than "is". I've listed it as an alternative, do you think my changes to the entry page work? · Tygrrr... 19:15, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think it looks fine, but can it really be the past participle? Are there any examples you can point to?--Brett 22:40, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not really. I don't really know where to look. En:wikt had it listed and it sounded plausible. I don't have a lot of personal experience conjugating bide, it's not a word I really use, but "I have bidden my time" sounded okay, haha. Not very scientific, I know :-) If you can't find verification from your usual sources, feel free to remove. · Tygrrr... 14:48, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Looked and did not find any verification from any reputable dictionaries, including the Oxford English Dictionary, and the British dictionary, as well as several online dictionaries. I will not remove it, though, because I believe that one of you two should do it. Cheers, Razorflame 03:24, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed bide.--Brett 11:06, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
