Yam[change]

There has been some discussion (for example, here) about our defining style, with the consensus now being that we prefer full sentences. Imagine you're talking to the person, and tell them what the word means. If it's a noun, say, "A yam is a food that..." or "Police are people who", or "Wood is a material that...". If it's a verb, say, "If you eat something, you..."
Keep it simple. I don't even know what the genus Dioscorea is.
Example sentences should exemplify, not simply use. In your sentence, yam could be thought, story, coffee, dinner, homework, sentence, workout, etc. Something like, Fry the potato or yam pieces until they are crisp and light brown tells the reader more about it.
