When you fill in the word you would like to create in the input box on the main page, you would be brought to the editing page, with a preloaded text in the text box. For experienced users, it is quite obvious that it is a template. This documentation page is here to explain all the different parameters of this template and how to use it.

Parameters[change]

The following lists the parameters of the template.

  • wikipedia - This parameter would make {{wikipedia}} appear. Use it when there is a relevant page on the Simple English Wikipedia.
  • wp-article - This parameter would specify the article on Wikipedia, especially when the relevant page is of another name from the original page on Wiktionary. Defaults to {{PAGENAME}}
  • other-spellings - If there is an alternative spelling of the word, list it in this parameter, no need for the two square brackets to link.
  • other-spellings2 - Use this parameter if there is a second alternative spelling of the word.
  • pronunciation-us - This parameter would specify the file name of the audio for the word you are defining. Please drop File: as it is not supported by the original template ({{audio}})! Note: This parameter only works for US English, please use alternative for UK English audio.
  • pronunciation-uk - This parameter would specify the file name of the UK English audio of the word.
  • pronunciation-both - This parameter would tell the template that there are audio files for the two English. Please also specify pronunciation-both-us and pronunciation-both-uk for the file names of the audios. Leave this parameter blank when there is only one.
