  1. Lexeme is the head-words in a dictionary and some words are made based on these lexemes. They are units of meaning, independent of any inflectional endings, or whether it is one word or several. The largest English dictionaries have about half a million lexemes, although the numbers can be higher.
    "Come in" is a lexeme, so is "raining cats and dogs".
