Lexical category[change]

@Victor Bob:, instead of simply changing the lexical category of a word, as you've done yet again with meanwhile, how about starting a discussion about why you think it should be changed. In this case, while I could possibly see some justification for analyzing meanwhile as a preposition in some cases, I can't see any for doing so in the case of in the meanwhile. And I'm not entirely persuaded even for the more general case. Brett (talk) 10:26, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The preposition above can be used in a fused construction like the above. The phrase in the meanwhile contains a fused NP too.
In addition, I think a lot of sentence adverbs might as well be reanalysed as intransitive prepositions. Victor Bob [talk] 23:35, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Or maybe in the meanwhile just contains a noun. What's the positive case for it being a fused construction? What's the positive case for it being a preposition? How does modification by mean suggest a preposition?--Brett (talk) 10:55, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have reverted it. Victor Bob [talk] 12:02, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
