great work grapeguySpencerk 20:21, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Grapeguy

Interesting background! I sincerely hope you become a regular contributor here. The place is pretty deserted despite having over 300 residents.--Brett 11:37, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all your great work so far!--Brett 15:59, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mean[change]

As far as I knew, the arithmetic mean was the average. I'm still not clear how they differ. I understand there are other measures of central tendency, but... As for measures, don't worry too much about them, I'd say. The metric system might not be in the BNC, but almost anyone learning English should be familiar with it. Thanks again for all your work. It's lovely seeing things moving forward. I'd pretty much run out of steam when I finished the AWL.--Brett 21:53, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clean up[change]

Hey, don't sweat it! I'm just elated that we've added almost a hundred words in a week (even if many of them are just alternate forms.) Keep at it.--Brett 23:22, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. By the way, comments on top of Simple talk page re:Archives?

WiKtionary:Simple talk See WiKtionary:Simple talk#simplify Simple talk archives 1-3 for final explanation.

Looks a bit ugly. I think we need to look at how to make it compact and tidy as it goes forward, but that can wait. The history keeps track of who made the changes, so I don't think you really need to sign it. In the conversations, it makes sense so that you can quickly see who has what viewpoint, but other than that... Anyhow, thanks for doing it!--Brett 23:52, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good enough. I'll let someone else do the aesthetic part or whatever else you think it needs.Grapeguy 00:01, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome back![change]

Good to see you're back.--Brett 01:45, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Test templates[change]

May I ask what you're trying to accomplish with {{test}} and testx? Maybe I can help... - Tygrrr -talk- 17:51, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merging organise and organize into one page--organise / organize--is potentially a pretty controversial change. I think your idea of merging alternate spellings into one page should be discussed on Simple talk before you go any further with it. I, for one, am not sure I agree with it and others may have an opinion on the matter, too. Thanks! - Tygrrr -talk- 02:57, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've replied on my talk page, which I often do just to make the conversations easy to follow. Thanks. - Tygrrr -talk- 20:00, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to try things out, you may want to use the sandbox. Or you could create your own testing page, something like User:Grapeguy/Test or User:Grapeguy/Sandbox. I'm going to remove the message you've added to {{test}}. Let me know if you'd like me to move testx to your userspace. It really shouldn't have a page because "testx" isn't a word :-) - Tygrrr -talk- 22:18, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
{{test}} is a warning given to users who have vandalized our beloved wiki :-). The sandbox is a place where you can make any formatting changes you like. It's a useful communal place to play around with wiki mark-up. If you want to create your own page to do whatever you want, you can click on either of the "Grapeguy" links I created above and start the page. Or you can create a page with whatever name you like--just add the name of the page after "User:Grapeguy/". For an example, you can see my project page: user:Tygrrr/Projects. I will go ahead and delete testx as you requested, but if you decide that you want to create a personal sandbox and would like the formatting back, just ask me and I'll help :-) - Tygrrr -talk- 03:23, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm guessing my note in your user_talk got lost somehow in the shuffle. Thanks for all the help. Sorry I misunderstood the use of template:test. My question is - How do I create test templates and test them in my user space or the sandbox? Grapeguy 06:14, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just to let you know, I have posted your suggestion about merging pages here on simple talk. Please come and share your thoughts because I probably didn't explain your idea exactly right. - Tygrrr -talk- 17:35, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Prepositions[change]

Hi, Grapeguy. The words that you've changed from preposition to adverb do not belong there, despite their traditional relegation to that category. I've done my best to create entries for every preposition in modern English. Though I've likely overlooked a few, there are none that are included by mistake. I would urge you, before you switch a bunch of them, to read the relevant sections in the Cambridge Grammar of the English Language. If you do not find the explanation convincing, then let's work together to find a compromise.--Brett 01:39, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough. Very interesting. I'll read it. Is it available on the web anywhere?Grapeguy 01:50, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not that I'm aware of. You'll likely have to go to a library, or you could buy it, but it's $175. If no local library has a copy, let me know and I'll photocopy the chapter and post it to you.--Brett 01:53, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I can get it from the stacks at Appalachian State University. At which chapter should I be looking - the one on Prepositions and Prepositional Phrases?Grapeguy 02:18, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your test page[change]

I moved your new test page from the mainspace to your user namespace. You can find it here: User:Grapeguy/sandbox:template:test. - Tygrrr -talk- 00:31, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your question above about how to create the test template: I put your most recent progess from "testx" and the template:test page onto your personal sandbox so that you don't have to start over. You can play around with the wording and formatting as you like. Let me know if you need any more help or have any other questions. :-) - Tygrrr -talk- 00:38, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Comparative[change]

No sweat! Thank you for all your contributions. Sometimes it feels kinda lonely here and it's nice when other people participate.--Brett 12:22, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
