Welcome to Simple English Wiktionary, the free dictionary written in simple English! You don't have to log in if you want to read or change the entries on Simple English Wiktionary, but making an account is fast, free and easy. You don't have to tell us anything about yourself, and it helps you in many ways, for example:

  • You can have a username of your choice
  • You can see a list of all the changes you have made (my changes)
  • You have your own user page
  • You have your own talk page which, if you choose, also allows users to send you messages without knowing your e-mail address
  • You have your own watchlist (my watched pages) to which you can add entries that interest you
  • You can change the way the website looks to you, and the way it works for you
  • You can ask to become an Administrator or Sysop (who can remove pages and put them back, protect them from being changed, edit protected pages, and block users for violation of our policies)
  • Your opinion can be counted in formal votes and elections, and on pages like requests for deletion

Please learn the formating. The noun header is followed by the noun template -- it should not be removed. --Jared 22:33, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions[change]

As you have asked for feedback on your edits, here is my opinion. Firstly, I think you should register an account. It lets you edit from more than one computer and we will still know that it is you who is editing. Making an account is easy, just follow the instructions above. Secondly, now that you are comfortable creating articles, the next step is to learn correct formatting. A good place to start is Wiktionary:Entry layout explained. You can find other helpful pages at User:Tygrrr#Useful pages. Thirdly, as to the content of the pages you have created, I think you should focus on quality, rather than quantity. Your created articles often only have one very specific definition, rather than include the many different definitions and/or parts of speech. Something that you could do to see what pages should look like is see what changes other editors have made to your pages. That way you can see things that you can do yourself. I think you'll find that there are some very simple things that you can do to improve your edits. Even if you don't feel comfortable adding pronunciations, categories or interwiki, you can at least have proper formatting and can create pages that aren't stubs. I know I've thrown a lot of information at you. I'd recommend taking some time to review the pages I've suggested before creating any new pages. By then you'll be fully prepared to make some fantastic new articles! :-) And of course, you can always ask me or another regular user if you have any other questions about how to improve. It may take some time but don't be discouraged! You've done some good work so far and I hope you'll not only keep it up but also make these simple improvements :-) · Tygrrr... 17:28, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Have you checked out the pages yet? I notice a couple mistakes that you are still making. For example, the part of speech should be at a "level 2 heading" (with 2 =s), not a "level 3 heading" (not 3 =s). So the correct way would be: ==Noun==. If you are creating a page that is a plural, you can do it like this:
==Noun==
{{noun|homosexual}}
#{{plural of|homosexual}}
Also, in a heading, only the first word should be capitalized, so you should type ==Proper noun== instead of ==Proper Noun==.
Really it would be much easier if you would read the pages I suggested rather than have me tell you point by point what you can do better.
Thanks for you help with the vandal. Just so you know, there are templates you may use to warn a vandal. The templates can be found here. · Tygrrr... 20:15, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry I haven't been reading the pages you suggested before, but I just recently read them today! I noticed that there is a template for blocked users. If you put the template on someone's user page, will it block them? If not, then how can you block someone? --71.225.85.57 20:20, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Placing the template on a user's page will not block them. It's simply used for notification. Only administrators and bureaucrats have the ability to block users. · Tygrrr... 20:23, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality[change]

Just like at Wikipedia and other Wiktionaries our entries must be neutral (see WT:NPOV). Edits like this and this are not neutral. Simple English Wiktionary is not the place to express your opinions on things, it is a place to give facts. Please make sure you are being neutral in your definitions and example sentences from now on. Thanks. · Tygrrr... 18:42, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
