Welcome[change]

Trgrrr... Is that you? My goodness, you're everywhere! (I know you from the Simple English Wikipedia). Was my article okay? I was trying to do it right. Anyway thanks for the welcome. AmericanEagle 18:10, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

On second thought... I see how much you did on moral. Thanks ~ AmericanEagle 18:12, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
It was a very fine first attempt at an article. :-) It took me a while to get used to the formatting and wording, so don't let that sort of thing deter you. You'll see that I edit every new page that gets added to Wiktionary so it doesn't mean you didn't do a good job. The easiest thing to do is just look at a bunch of random pages to try to get a feel for things. Let me know if you've got any questions. · Tygrrr... 18:54, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi[change]

Can you prod a poor n00b to the links on how to properly create a definition? Thanks, Maxim 00:03, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Sure. I recommend User:Tygrrr#Useful pages as a good place to start, especially Wiktionary:Entry layout explained and Wiktionary:How to edit. Another useful thing would be to check out a bunch of random pages and look at the formatting. Also, we have so few editors and so few new pages that I copyedit literally every new page that gets added here, so you'll have plenty of help. :-) · Tygrrr... 13:34, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Am I a n00b?[change]

Am I doing a good job editing Simple English Wiktionary?

--71.225.85.57 22:39, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you![change]

Oh, thank god, you blocked that one user who was replacing defintions with things like "You suck!" He replaced your user page with that, too, but I undid it.

Most wanted pages list[change]

The newest update for the Most Wanted pages list is up. It uses the June 7 backup (the list is only a couple hours old) and contains 1150+ articles at 5 links or more. So much easier doing the list for wikt (2meg file) compared to wiki (30+meg). Enjoy. -- Creol(talk) 10:24, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for not forgetting about us over here! :-) · Tygrrr... 18:43, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

July 24 update is online - 642 articles with 7 or more links. I don't forget about updating. I just forget about stopping in and checking replies.. :) -- Creol(talk) 12:52, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Interwiki[change]

Hello, Tygrrr. Should interwiki start with small? Or??? I didn't catch you well!--Muddyb Blast Producer 14:05, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Dear friend, this absolutely amazable things which I didn't ever seen before. What I meant is: Everyone has it's own language, so how we could write it in the same way? Bird is English word. Ndege is Swahili and it's sometimes happen to other language to use on their own. Give me a brief about this. Please answer right here only, don't worry about that.--Muddyb Blast Producer 14:23, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
If someone who speaks only Swahili saw the word "bird" and didn't know what it meant, they would need the definition in Swahili. The Swahili wiktionary could have a definition for "bird" (even though it doesn't have one now). The page there would just say
==English==
*ndege
As I understand it, all the wiktionaries are multi-language dictionaries, so they have definitions in the native language for words from all languages. (Simple English Wiktionary is the only one that is not a multi-language dictionary. We only have English words here.) · Tygrrr... 14:37, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Ok. Could you please try to add an Interwiki of Swahili word paka to cat? I establish now cat page! I want to see if there's definition of other language in our sw:wikt. Things on trial...--Muddyb Blast Producer 14:48, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Are you there? So what to do with an interwiki?--Muddyb Blast Producer 15:24, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Sorry. I'm not sure I understood what you were asking from me. If you create the definition for "cat" at Swahili wiktionary, we can add the interwiki link here. But we should not add [[sw:paka]] to cat here. We can only add [[sw:cat]]. · Tygrrr... 15:30, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Ok, add it and how we are going to ask for language definition? On meta??? I redirect that paka page to cat page. So, don't worry I'll do it as rule says...--Muddyb Blast Producer 15:38, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

(unindent) You don't need to redirect it. On Swahili Wiktionary you can have both pages: paka and cat. I don't know what you mean by "how are we going to ask for language definition?", though. Please try to explain and then I will try to answer. :-) · Tygrrr... 15:49, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Maybe it would help you to see how it is done on English Wiktionary for an example. paka and cat. · Tygrrr... 15:51, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

I saw it in en:wikt. they have both of them, paka and cat. But for sw:wikt. is too hard to do because there's less number of contributors. I'm the only one who is active most of time. Now I just make that sw:wikt. better! I found so many page are just having a few words, sometime you can find two words or one in one page. But now I'm about to correct them. And I'm sorry for my poor English. I really don't know pretty English. I'm sorry again!--Muddyb Blast Producer 16:13, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
There's no reason to apologize. Your English is just fine. Simple English Wikipedia and Wikitionary are for people with your level of English so you will fit in just fine here :-) Please don't feel like I am pressuring you to add pages in English to sw:wikt. I understand that it is more important to add pages in Swahili first. But if you ever add English words there, we would be happy to have the interwiki links added here. We would also be very happy to have your help here, but I understand if you are too busy at Swahili Wiktionary to give us your time and energy. The door is always open! Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you edit here :-) · Tygrrr... 16:24, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Yes, it's true, I'm busy with Swahili Wikt. and Swahili Wikipedia. But now I'm in sw:wikt. I'm just creating community page, rfa page and so many things which are needed for the wikamusi (wiktionary). But I'll try to add something here. Thanks for your kindness.--Muddyb Blast Producer 16:44, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

List of sysops : unknown status Andre Engels[change]

Hi Tygrrr,

Andre Engels is not an admin, so why did I see that he can block users or delete pages? I would like to understand. Thanks

Nebogipfel 19:27, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Sometimes a user from another wiki notices vandalism on IRC and requests temporary access to sysop tools to stop the vandalism. I'm not sure exactly how this process works as I don't use IRC and have never had to request sysop privileges temporarily. · Tygrrr... 20:39, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
Andre Engels is Steward. Stewards can block users everywhere in emergency. Best regards, --Thogo 20:41, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

If this has not already been dealt with by the time you see the message, can you take a look at Special:Contributions/92.2.116.251 and get rid of the highly (seemingly) unstandard redirects that have been made? Yep. Great to see you back here :). Cheers, Razorflame 19:42, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Thank you both. Between a combination of being busy in real life (recently married) and feeling kind of overwhelmed by the Pakistan editor, I have (obviously) been absent for a while. I see some things have changed, we're creeping up in article count (yay!) and we've got some new admins (double yay!). I'm pleased to see the place has not "blown up" in my absence (only half-joking, SE WP does not seem to be doing so well as of late. Of course, I'm not so egotistical to think my absence or presence has anything to do with the state of either wiki, it's just nice to come back to a place that's doing well :-D ) Brett, glad to see you're still here, working hard as usual. I'm not sure what my level of activity will be, but I miss editing, so I guess we'll see. Thanks for thinking of me (your messages at SE WP) and thanks again for the WB. · Tygrrr... 19:47, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
Congratulations on your wedding! Is your spouse cool with you spending lots of time here? :-)--Brett 19:59, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Congrats on getting married :). Razorflame 20:00, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Ha ha, thanks! Yeah, he's an admin at SE WP. I never could quite convince him to try SE WKT, though. Besides, I do most of my editing at work... · Tygrrr... 20:05, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
What's his username? (sorry if this is a little intrusive, but you've piqued my interest). Cheers, Razorflame 20:06, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Category:Old words[change]

I know that this deletion request is kind of old, but since I wasn't here when it started, has the category been renamed already? Is Category:Old words ok for deletion now? Cheers, Razorflame 20:01, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

No rename yet (that I know of). Like I said in my vote, the category itself serves a purpose. I don't really care what it's called as long as it exists :-P · Tygrrr... 20:05, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
Technically, the category could be deleted under the speedy deletion criteria for being an empty category, but in the interest of the RfD procedure, would you rather I or you create one of your alternate categories to put words like those in? Razorflame 00:06, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
After I replied to you I realized that it's empty. I can't remember for sure, but I thought it had an article or two in it when the RfD was posted. Seeing as it's now empty, you are correct that it can be QDed. · Tygrrr... 00:11, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Reply[change]

I've gone through and fixed the pages that linked to the Indian Occupied Kashmir page and directed them to the correct page. As for the redirects, they were unneeded, so they got deleted. Cheers, Razorflame 22:55, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Question[change]

When a user moves a page like this:

  • (Move log); 18:03 . . Maximillion Pegasus (Talk | contribs | block) moved Makkah (Mecca) to Makkah

Is it appropriate to delete the redirect created by the move, such as the one that I just deleted? I want to make sure so that I know that what I am doing is correct. Thanks, Razorflame 00:05, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Yes, the redirect created by the move does not serve a purpose because no one is going to look up "Makkah (Mecca)" in the search bar. In fact, a better solution would be to talk to Maximillion Pegasus and ask him to uncheck the box "Leave a redirect behind" in those kinds of situations. · Tygrrr... 00:09, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
I would but users do not have the suppressredirect right. (only admins and bots do) Maximillion Pegasus 00:10, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for telling me. I just assumed this was an option for everyone. Nice to meet you, btw :-) You're doing great work! · Tygrrr... 00:14, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the compliment :) Nice to meet you also! You do great work too :) Glad to see your back editing with us again :) (also congratulations on your marriage) Maximillion Pegasus 00:19, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
You're welcome, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. Ha ha, I think I got them all! :-P · Tygrrr... 00:23, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Tygrrr, please let me know if I do anything wrong right away so that I can fix the behavior. Seeing as I am a new administrator, I know that I will make mistakes, and if someone is there to tell me what I did wrong, I should be able to fix the behavior fairly quickly :). I've taken care of all of the unnecessary redirects that MP left behind. Also, I should've remembered that only administrators have the ability to supress redirects, but I never really noticed this. Cheers, Razorflame 00:20, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
I certainly don't want to "patrol" your edits, but I will let you know if I see you doing something that I think needs improvement. Advice goes both ways, of course, so please let me know if you see me do something you think isn't right. · Tygrrr... 00:26, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Of course. Advice does indeed go both ways. I'm probably going to go through the new pages log and get most of the pages created patrolled for now, so that is what I am going to be doing for the next while. Cheers, Razorflame 00:29, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

How are you?[change]

Hi there Tygrr. How are you today? I hope you are doing well. I have sort of been neglecting the Simple English Wiktionary since I have started editing the Simple English Wikipedia some more (and also started to edit Commons, Meta, the English Wiktionary, the English Wikipdia, and the Simple English Wikiquote some as well). I don't plan on becoming very active on the English Wikipedia or Commons very much...just got bored of editing the same old sites over and over again, so I branched out and made a few edits to Commons and Meta (I even proposed the Simple English Wikinews again). Anyways, I have dropped editing on Commons, Meta (mostly), the English Wikipedia and the English Wiktionary, so expect me to get increasingly more active here. I am probably going to stay active here, at Meta, and at the Simple English Wikipedia (for now). Cheers, Razorflame 19:16, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Cool, glad to hear it. I'm doing fine today, thank you for asking. Been kinda busy at work lately. I had training all last week for work so I had no computer access. I liked that the weather was a bit warmer this morning but now it's cloudy so that's bummed me out some. I'm ready for spring to be here already! · Tygrrr... 19:42, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Nomination for bureaucrat[change]

Hi there Tygrrr. I would like to nominate you for bureaucrat here. We only have one active bureaucrat, and that is never a good thing. We should have more than one active bureaucrat so that if one active bureaucrat is unavailable for any specific reason, the other 'crat can cover for him or her. Let me know if you would like me to nominate you. Thanks, Razorflame 19:21, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Hmmm, I appreciate the thought, but I'm going to have to think on that one. As you know, I've turned down requests for higher levels before at SE WP. There are less crat duties available here which to me says that it's not a huge responsibility but also maybe not a huge need for another crat. I'd be interested in what Brett thinks. If everyone here really wants me to and thinks we need one, I'll be more inclined, but my first instinct would be to decline. I'll ponder this some more and I'm open to hearing what others think so feel free to comment below (anyone who's reading this). · Tygrrr... 19:42, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Why don't I bring this up over at Simple talk? That way, more people will be able to see it and maybe more people will respond to this. What do you think about moving this discussion to the ST page? Cheers, Razorflame 19:44, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Sure, feel free to post your thoughts there. · Tygrrr... 19:45, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

I'm not really inclined to let mistakes sit... I don't really see a problem with cleaning it up right away if I see it. Could you please try to explain to me why that's helpful to you? Thanks! · Tygrrr... 19:09, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

I worded that wrong. It can't edit while I'm gone. ѕwirlвoy  19:00, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

I've given you a reply to your response on my talk page. Please have a look at it and tell me what you think. Thanks, Razorflame 17:20, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I have already seen it. If I had had something to say, I would have said it. Since you're asking though, one thing I thought when I read it was, "He said he was only going to rationalize the one thing and then he went ahead and rationalized them all anyways... *sigh*". · Tygrrr... 18:28, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, I got a little carried away. I hope that they helped you understand more the reasons why I did what I did. I hope that my message was clear enough to tell you that I am trying very hard to break out of these habits and I hope that you will realize that I did say that I was sorry for a couple of things in there as well :). All the best, Razorflame 18:30, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

refrigerator[change]

I moved the image to the next line because when I first saw it where the image was, it was pushing down the definition another whole line, so it looks like there was a break in between the template and the definition. Hope this clears stuff up :). Razorflame 19:49, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

There was a period after the image link. If you look closely at the version before you fixed it, you can see the dot in between the template and the definition. So I put the pic back to where it belongs and removed the period (as well as the unnecessary pic width parameter). · Tygrrr... 19:53, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
Ok, so it was that little period that caused that? Now I know that. Thanks for the help! Cheers, Razorflame 19:57, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Reply[change]

No, you wouldn't need to go through all of my plural page creations because I use the English Wiktionary to make sure that: A)The definitiosn exist, B) To see if they have any pronunciations that I need to copy over here, and C) To see if there are any additional meanings in addition to the regular plural of the word that needs to be added to the page. I do look at each and every one of the entries that I write here to make sure that they are indeed correct entries, so you don't really need to check them all. Cheers, Razorflame 04:42, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

I've replied on your page, but the problem that I'm having is I've run across a few of your pages that don't have definitions there. Please make sure you're not adding interwiki to pages that don't exist. Thanks. · Tygrrr... 15:19, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Sure! I'll make sure that they exist on the English Wiktionary first before I link to them here. Cheers, Razorflame 15:20, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Pronunciations[change]

Hi there. Where do you get your pronunciations from, because a good portion of the entries that I find over on the English Wiktionary don't have pronunciations :). They could probably use someone like you. Anyways, great job with these pronunciations so far! Keep it up! Razorflame 17:24, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Ha, well, yes they could probably use me if I wasn't getting my pronunciations from them, heh heh. :-) You probably haven't noticed them on many pages because most of the plurals and verb tenses there don't have them. On a related note, I'm so close to completing my goal I can almost taste it... · Tygrrr... 17:28, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Good work! Nice going! What are you going to do after you finish it? Razorflame 17:31, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Oh, I'll probably get back to work on this. Other than that, I'm not sure. I usually get kept so busy with copyediting new pages that I don't have much else to work on. · Tygrrr... 17:34, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Tygrrr, I thought you explained somewhere all about how to do pronunciations, but now I can't find that comment. Where is it? I would like to collect instructions like that and link them from the Main Page: partly for me, because I forget how to do things, and partly for new users. Anyway, I copied a pronunciation into tropical from English Wiktionary and probably did it all wrong; would you please check it? Thanks. Coppertwig(talk) 14:25, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

My explanation was on simple talk here. There's also the more formal and less complete description at Wiktionary:Entry layout explained#Pronunciation. I could try to expand the section there so that it details exactly what to do if that would be helpful. · Tygrrr... 16:05, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

Good idea...I did not think of that at the time, but after a while, I figured it was a good idea to leave it unlinked...unfortunately, I got attacked by a cross-wiki vandal, so I had to go deal with that...which left me unable to fix it. Cheers, Razorflame 02:23, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Good to see you again[change]

Nice to have you back again. While you were away, I had to deal with spambots and malbots making changes here. As a result, I found 15 IPs that were open proxies (confirmed on port 80 and 225). Hope you are well, Razorflame 20:56, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Whoops![change]

Darn! This I'm usually so good at fixing the pronunciations...guess that one just slipped by me. I'm also concerned because I haven't seen Brett in a good 2 weeks. Razorflame 21:58, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Adder and conformity[change]

Hi there Tygrrr. Recently, both adder and conformity have been the striking ground for spambots/malbots. Any edit that replaces a section of a page here with Good site, admin or Good post, admin are spambots and malbots and are immediately blockable for 1-3 months, maybe more, depending upon whether or not they are open proxies. Recently, we've been getting hit with spambots and malbots. Hope this helps you understand my rationale for blocking those two IPs. Cheers, Razorflame 18:34, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Sure, okay. · Tygrrr... 19:01, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks[change]

Thanks for your welcome. I came upon this wiki browsing through some project closure discussions on Meta, and noticed that it was up for closure. The project seems like a worthy endeavour, so I opposed its closure. The project does, however, look like it could do with some extra volunteers, so I'll try to help out here whenever I'm not busy at Wikinews. Thanks again, Tempodivalse @en.wikinews
